What is the minimum salary required to get a credit card in India?

Asked 7 Jul 2025·4321 views
I am a 25-year-old intern doctor with a stipend of ₹25,000 per month. I do not have a salary account with any bank yet. I want to build my credit history early. What is the minimum income or salary requirement for getting a credit card in India? Can I get a credit card as an intern or fresher? Which cards are easiest to get approved for with a low income?

Most Indian credit cards require a minimum income of ₹25,000-30,000 per month for salaried individuals. As an intern with ₹25,000 stipend, you may qualify with some banks. SBI Card, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank have specific cards for low-income applicants. The SBI Janalakshmi Card and Federal Bank MoDrift are easier to get. You can also get a secured credit card against a fixed deposit which has minimal income requirements.

Get a secured credit card against an FD of ₹10,000-20,000 at your preferred bank. This bypasses income requirements entirely and builds your credit history. After 12 months of timely payments, you can request an upgrade to an unsecured card or apply elsewhere with your improved credit score.
