Can I open a PPF account online in SBI or HDFC Bank?

Asked 23 Mar 2026·341 views
I want to open a PPF account but my bank does not offer PPF accounts. Can I open a PPF account in SBI or HDFC Bank online without visiting a branch? What is the process? Also, can I transfer my existing PPF account from PO to a bank?

Yes, you can open a PPF account online in SBI through YONO app or internet banking. Go to Accounts > Open PPF Account. Similarly, HDFC Bank allows PPF opening through net banking. You need to have an existing savings account with the bank. The process takes 1-2 working days.

Transferring from Post Office to bank is allowed under PPF rules. Submit Form 14 at your bank along with a copy of your PPF passbook. The receiving bank will coordinate with the Post Office for transfer. The transfer takes about 2-3 weeks.
