American Express Green Card
The American Express Green Card is Amex India’s entry-level credit card, positioned below the Amex Gold and Amex Platinum in the benefits hierarchy. Cardholders earn Membership Rewards (MR) points on every spends, with accelerated point accumulation on categories such as dining, travel, and everyday shopping. The card includes complimentary travel insurance cover for airline accidents and lost or delayed baggage, which adds value for frequent travellers. Shopping protection covers eligible purchases against damage or theft for a limited period after purchase. The annual fee is lower than Amex Gold or Platinum, making it accessible to a broader set of applicants, though the fee is non-waivable on most variants. Membership Rewards points can be transferred to airline and hotel loyalty programmes or redeemed for gift vouchers and shopping credits. One important limitation is that American Express has fewer acceptance points in India compared with Visa or Mastercard — acceptance is strong at hotels, airlines, and large retail chains but may be limited at smaller merchants. The Amex Green Card suits someone who values the Membership Rewards programme and travel insurance protections and regularly shops at merchants that accept American Express.
