Auto-Pay Setup

Auto-pay setup is a recurring instruction on a credit card account that automatically pays a chosen amount — minimum amount due, total amount due, or a fixed custom amount — from a linked bank account on the payment due date. The feature is designed to prevent missed payments, late fees, and damage to the cardholder’s credit score. To set up auto-pay, the cardholder authorises the card issuer to debit the linked account on a specified date each billing cycle, which is typically on or a few days before the actual due date. Most issuers offer this facility through net banking, their mobile app, or the credit card portal. The auto-pay amount can be changed at any time before the scheduled payment date. If the linked bank account has insufficient funds on the scheduled date, the auto-pay will fail and a late payment fee will be charged, which makes monitoring the account balance equally important. Choosing the total amount due as the auto-pay option avoids interest charges entirely, while the minimum amount due option prevents a late fee but interest will still apply on the remaining outstanding balance.
