Bounce Fee
A bounce fee is charged by the card issuer when a credit card payment submitted through NACH (National Automated Clearing House), ECS (Electronic Clearing Service), or any auto-debit mandate is returned unpaid. This happens most commonly when the linked bank account has insufficient funds to cover the payment amount on the scheduled debit date. Bounce fees can also occur if the bank account number or IFSC code provided during the auto-pay setup is incorrect or outdated. The fee amount varies by issuer but is typically in the range of ₹250 to ₹750 per bounced transaction. Beyond the bounce fee itself, a failed payment means the credit card bill was not settled by the due date, which triggers a late payment fee and interest charges on the outstanding amount, and may also negatively affect the cardholder’s credit score. Cardholders using auto-pay should ensure their linked account always has sufficient balance a few days before the scheduled debit date, and should keep bank account details updated with the card issuer to avoid unnecessary fees.
