Use Credit Card Purchase Protection for Extended Warranty

Premium credit cards in India offer extended warranty as a built-in benefit — typically extending the manufacturer warranty by 1–2 years. Most cardholders don’t know this exists.
The trick: Pay for electronics and appliances with a card that offers extended warranty, then claim the extension when the manufacturer warranty expires.
Cards with extended warranty:
- HDFC Infinia: 1-year extended warranty on purchases up to ₹10,00,000.
- HDFC Diners Club Black: 1-year extended warranty on all purchases.
- Axis Magnus: 1-year extended warranty on electronics purchases.
- SBI Card Aurum: 1-year extended warranty on purchases above ₹10,000.
- ICICI Emeralde: 1-year extended warranty on electronics.
Step-by-step:
- Before buying electronics, check if your card offers extended warranty.
- Pay for the full purchase with the eligible card (partial payment doesn’t qualify).
- Keep the original invoice and card statement.
- When manufacturer warranty expires, contact the card issuer’s concierge to file a warranty claim.
- Some issuers require a service centre inspection report — keep that handy.
Annual value: A ₹1,00,000 laptop with 1-year extended warranty = ₹5,000–₹10,000 in avoided repair/replacement costs if something goes wrong.
