Waive on Milestone
Waive on milestone is a fee waiver benefit where a credit card’s annual fee is conditionally waived if the cardholder reaches a specified spending milestone — either in a single transaction, within a calendar month, or across the full membership year. The milestone waiver is a more targeted version of the general spend-threshold waiver: instead of a fixed annual spend target, the cardholder earns the waiver by hitting a specific goal, which can be either a one-time big purchase or a cumulative target. For example, a card may offer to waive the annual fee if the cardholder spends ₹1 lakh in a single transaction — useful for someone making a large electronics purchase or booking an international flight. More commonly, the milestone is cumulative: ₹10 lakh annual spend on an HDFC Bank card may qualify for an annual fee waiver on the Infinia (₹12,500 fee), while a ₹5 lakh spend on an Amex MRCC may waive its ₹1,000 annual fee. The milestone waiver is typically processed automatically by the bank’s system within 30 to 60 days of the milestone being reached, and the reversal appears as a credit on the card statement. In some cases, cardholders must claim the waiver through customer service if it is not processed automatically. The key distinction of the milestone waiver is that it often rewards a one-time burst of spending rather than sustained monthly spending across the year — making it accessible to cardholders who have occasional large expenses but may not maintain high monthly spend. Cardholders should read the milestone waiver terms carefully: some milestones are calculated on net qualifying spend (excluding EMI, fuel, and wallet loads), and the fee reversal may be conditional on the card remaining active and not cancelled within a certain period. If the fee has already been charged before the milestone is reached, the reversal typically still applies — but cardholders should check whether the reversal comes as a credit to the statement or a waiver of the next renewal fee.
